Interviews on Live Free or Die Hard with TH.com
She's that very pretty girl-next-door brunette that all the
guys wanted to date. We've seen 22-year-old Mary Elizabeth
Winstead in horrorfests Final Destination 3, Black Christmas and
The Ring Two and the high school superhero film Sky High but,
earlier in her career, she was on Broadway in "Joseph and
the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" with Donny Osmond so her
talents are many. We most recently caught Mary as the sweet
actress playing an abandoned cheerleader in Quentin Tarantino's
Grindhouse film Death Proof. Full Story?

Mary Elizabeth Winstead Drops 'Die Hard 4' Details
Young up-and-comer Mary Elizabeth Winstead turned up at this
past weekend's Grindhouse junket, where Cinematical's crackerjack
reporter Kevin Kelly was stationed to pick up even the tiniest
bits of news. While talking up her role in the film, Winstead was
asked to drop some info about her other upcoming, high-profile
project, Live Free or Die Hard, or as the non-Americans of the
world know it, Die Hard 4.0. She didn't have much to say, but
when asked directly if Bonnie Bedelia would be turning up for any
kind of role in the film, Winstead confirmed what was already
pretty much common knowledge -- that Bedelia will be a no-show
once again. "She's not [back], no," was Winstead's
answer. "I kind of take over that role as 'the family
member' who is kind of taking care of herself, but also needs a
little help from John McClane, too."
Winstead also said that her character, Lucy McClane, will get to
have some kind of fight scenes in the film. When asked if Lucy is
a 'damsel to be rescued,' Winstead replied: 'Kind of, but not
really, because I'm a McClane, so I get to throw some punches. I
get to kick a little butt, which is fun." Is villain Timothy
Olyphant targeting McClane's daughter? Doesn't he have bigger
fish to fry, like shutting down the whole country, or something?
Anyway, I'm not going to be satisfied until we find out that
Reginald VelJohnson's character has actually been the mastermind
behind all of John McClane's troubles since 1988.

CD Review: Death Proof Original Soundtrack
On the opening night of Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez's
"Grindhouse," the 10:45 p.m. screening at the Grove was
sold out. The excited crowd lined up outside, eager to be let in
for the 191-minute multi-genre flick. Soon enough, with giant
sodas and popcorn buckets in our hands, we were ready-for action!
And, as they do, Tarantino and Rodriguez gave it to us.
Tarantino's latest project with Rodriguez ("Spy Kids,"
"Sin City"), is based on the types of films in the
1970s that featured tons of violence, gore and sex. These
"exploitation films," which had lower budgets than
mainstream features, were shown in theaters usually as double or
even triple features. The term "grindhouse" came about
in reference to the theaters that would show these films Full Story?

Review: Grindhouse
Grindhouse is a gloriously entertaining (if grotesque) return to
the films of Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez's youth. A
time when exploitation films (of various genres) not only reigned
supreme, but were quite often played in double bills. That right!
Two times the exploitation for the price of a single ticket. Of
course, the 70's were a much different time. Will today's
audiences embrace three hours and ten minutes of exploitive
madness from two of the greatest film making auteurs of the last
twenty years? We can always hope.
Grindhouse explodes on to the screen with the promise of
something we haven't seen the likes of in over twenty five years;
the double feature (complete with retro commercials and upcoming
movie trailers). Tarantino and Rodriguez not only set out to give
audiences more bang for their buck, but to bring back the
excitement of going to the movies. And Grindhouse makes good on
its promise. It isn't merely a movie, but an experience. And even
when it's floundering in self indulgent excess, this twofer is an
exhilarating, ambitious, whale of a good time at the movies.
Adding to the 70's feel, the film makers have even given the
movie a scratchy, worn quality complete with burns, coloration
changes, and missing reels (the missing reel title cards
conveniently appear during the film's more steamy scenesoh
the humanity!)
Having said all of this, Grindhouse isn't a flick for everyone.
It is extremely violent and has a tone that will mostly appeal to
those who love exploitations flicks. Simply put, it's a fanboy
film. But unlike the recent 300 and the upcoming Hot Fuzz,
Grindhouse isn't nearly as accessible because it's paying homage
to cult movies that many of today's audiences might not be
familiar with.
For those who are familiar, or for those of you who simply enjoy
the work of these directors, you're in for a big treat. First out
of the gate is Robert Rodriguez's Planet Terror Full Story?

Movie Babe of the Day: Mary Elizabeth Winstead
Mary Elizabeth Winstead stars as smokin' hot cheerleader, Lee,
in Grindhouse, opening in theaters everywhere this
weekend.
After breaking out in last year's Final Destination 3, the
22-year-old actress was offered a lead role in the slasher remake
Black Christmas. She turned it down for fear of being
typecast as a horror actress, but ultimately agreed to a
supporting role in the film. She was also part of the ensemble
cast of Emilio Estevez's Bobby. Her prior-to-breakout
credits include Disney's Sky High and a role on the NBC
soap opera, Passions.
Catch Mary Elizabeth Winstead lookin' all hot in Grindhouse,
and look for her in theaters later this year opposite Bruce
Willis in Live Free or Die Hard. - IGN
